Websites for restaurants and cafes
A page that fills the tables.
What a restaurant or cafe's one page needs, the mistakes that cost tables, and two worked examples you can open on your phone.
$495 for the first ten sites, then $850. Built in 48 hours, yours to keep.
The page
What the page needs.
Five things, in the order a customer looks for them. If your current page has them, it is doing its job. If it is missing some, start there.
Hours and the address, first.
The two things people search for a restaurant to find. They go in the first screen, with the number, and they match Google and the door. Nothing else on the page matters if the hours are wrong.
The menu as text, with prices.
Not a PDF, not a photo of the menu. Text on the page, because a phone can read it, Google can read it, and it can be updated in a minute when the price of eggs moves. Prices on the menu, so nobody has to ask.
One way to book or order.
Book a table, order ahead, or walk in: pick the one that runs your room and make it the button. A page with four competing buttons gets fewer of each.
A real photo of the room and the food.
Your room, your plates, your light. Stock photos of food you do not serve are the fastest way to lose the trust the rest of the page earned.
The one line that is yours.
The fire lit at four, the roast date on every bag, the kitchen that closes when the fire does. Every good place has one true sentence. Put it near the top.
The usual
The mistakes that cost tables.
- A PDF menu that takes ten seconds to open on a phone and cannot be read by Google.
- Hours on the site that do not match the hours on Google.
- Instagram as the website, so there is no menu, no hours and no way to book without an account.
- A reservation widget that takes over the whole page before anyone has seen a plate.
- Music that plays by itself.

Two worked examples.
Emberline is a fictional wood fired kitchen built to show the standard: a short menu as text with prices, a book a table button, and the one true line, the fire lit at four. Fieldnote Coffee is a fictional coffee bar: six drinks, hours and address as the second button, a roast date on every bag. Open either on your phone and notice how little you have to hunt for. Every concept on this site is a fictional business and says so on screen; it is the standard, not a client.
